ORGANIC VERNON WHITE SAPOTE
HARVEST: DECEMBER TO APRILOne of the best kept secrets of Mexico, this delicious subtropical is in a league of its own. One part custard, one part banana and one part pear with a hint of vanilla, the flavor of this distant cousin of the citrus family is truly unique. Furthermore, its texture is akin to a flan, making this fruit great to eat with nothing but a spoon.
The fruit ripens like an avocado so it will be shipped hard and then soften on the countertop. It is soft to the touch when ripe. When eating, avoid the skin which has a hint of bitterness (though it doesn't seem to bother everyone). To eat, cut the white sapote in two. The seeds are not edible. Also beware of the small undeveloped seeds as they can sometimes be hidden in the pulp. |
